Today, Professor Huda Abdel Moneim completes her sixty-seventh year in captivity, as she enters her eighth year of detention, amid deteriorating health conditions and ongoing humanitarian suffering, without any legal justification for her continued imprisonment throughout these years.
In an emotional message, her husband, Mr. Khaled Badawy, a lawyer, wrote that his wife and life partner is welcoming her new year behind bars, patient and steadfast, despite the illnesses and suffering surrounding her body, emphasizing that her continued detention represents a severe humanitarian burden on her family, especially given her deteriorating health condition.
The Al-Shehab Center for Human Rights asserts that the continued imprisonment of Professor Huda Abdel Moneim, despite her advancing age and deteriorating health, constitutes a blatant violation of the right to liberty and physical safety, and contradicts constitutional principles and humanitarian standards that require consideration of the conditions of the elderly in places of detention.
The Al-Shehab Center for Human Rights demands:
The immediate release of Professor Huda Abdel Moneim.
The cessation of prolonged detention without legal justification.
Enabling her right to appropriate medical treatment and healthcare outside her detention.
Considering her humanitarian and age-related conditions in accordance with the constitution and the law.
The continued detention of the elderly in prisons, despite their suffering from illnesses and hardships, represents an additional punishment that is neither recognized by law nor accepted by humanity.
