⚫️ The trial of Ms. Amal Hassan has been postponed to next February while she remains in custody
The Cairo Criminal Court – First Terrorism Circuit, presided over by Counselor Mohamed Said Al-Sharbin, has decided to postpone the trial of Ms. Amal Hassan Ahmed Ahmed Ali to the session on February 15, 2026, for pleading, while she continues to be held in custody pending case number 585 for the year 2020, concerning the Supreme State Security.
It is noteworthy that Ms. Amal Hassan, 52 years old, was arrested from her home on April 25, 2020, and was taken to a National Security Agency facility, where she was subjected to enforced disappearance for 15 days.
She later appeared before the Supreme State Security Prosecution on May 11, 2020, to be investigated regarding accusations – based on her husband – of joining the Muslim Brotherhood, without any evidence or proof being presented, despite her complete denial of these accusations, leading her to remain in pretrial detention for more than five years.
On December 24, 2024, Ms. Amal Hassan was referred to the Cairo Criminal Court on charges of joining a terrorist group and committing a crime related to financing terrorism, with her first trial session held on July 5, 2025.
The Al-Shehab Human Rights Center calls on the Egyptian authorities to ensure Ms. Amal Hassan's right to a fair trial, in accordance with the provisions of law and the constitution, and not according to the authorities' discretion.
